Regardless, it has been fun experimenting with the camera on my new phone and my computer's editing software. I hope you have enjoyed the videos as much as I have.
Here is "Bring on the Brookies" with Daniel Lemma on the tunes. This documents my summer solstice trip to Shenandoah National Park... Or maybe it was all a really nice dream... oh yeah! see if you can spot the trout as I look around the tree. he/she was a nice one I didn't catch.
*** I'm a little miffed about the quality of the video (if you expand the player, you'll see what I mean). Being filmed with an HD camera, it is much better on my computer before loading it up to vimeo/youtube. Further investigation reveals that I didn't save it in the correct dimensions (same thing for the striper vid), so I will be exchanging the videos over the next couple weeks. I have free account on vimeo, so I can upload more than 500MB a week. This will have to do for now.
So you'll also see that it took me 3 attempts to cast to the fish at 1:15. Ha. I was so frustrated. I'm lucky I didn't spook the pool. Had to edit out a "grumpy word."
ReplyDeleteWell done. Looks like you had a pleasant dream. I like the cameo appearance by the millipede... although the creepy crawlies might have made it a nightmare for some people. I personally enjoy the creepy crawlies.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jay. I also saw three basking/wading (what I think were) Eastern Water Snakes. I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to get them on film. They were small and didn't have a head shape that made me think cottonmouth, but the pattern on the back made me think twice :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, the millipede was very cool.
"Good day." I really loved that you didn't edit out the 3 attempts at 1:15 in....made me think you might have actually caught these brookies instead of just dreamed them. ;) "grumpy word" hehe...my mom would SO say that!
ReplyDeleteGreat video! maybe you could release the uncensored version at some point...those brookies are cool little fish :-)
ReplyDeletee - I had to leave those in. I was trying to be a totally rad and cool fisher guy and I kept snagging the tree. I got pissed at the moment but as I walked away, I had to laugh at myself. That's what I get for trying to be something I'm not :)
ReplyDeleteSanders - thanks man! They are amazing. I feel fortunate for such a good first outing. The "ef-bombs" will most likely stay off stage on this page :) if you go fishing with me, on the other hand, you'll hear plenty.
great video d. nash. i have really been enjoying your recent videos. while I am a fan of bad language, I feel that it is best left bleeped or censored in fly fishing videos.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ivan. I'm looking forward to the brownomite follow-up.
ReplyDeleteThe snakes were probably Northern Water Snakes (Nerodia sipedon). The only other snake you're likely to encounter in the streams there in Shenandoah would be Queen Snakes (Regina septemvittata). There shouldn't be any Water Moccasins up in them thar hills.
ReplyDeleteAt the 1:06 mark I said in my head " Welcome to mountain fishing." :) Nice video!!!
ReplyDeleteO - exactly :) That was pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteJay - Thanks. I will try to be quicker on the camera draw if I see them again. Then we will know for sure :)
My favorite one so far! You editing and creativity is top notch!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dustin. I wanted to throw a little plot into this one. Lots of fun. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeletefreakin sweet! sweetie
ReplyDeleteNice one!
ReplyDeleteRe: HD on Vimeo, you need to have a Pro account. I think it is worth it if you upload multiple HD videos a month, but if you don't want to pay the $ then stick with Youtube which has HD for free. The negative side of Youtube can be the Troll commentors you can get on videos, the Vimeo community is better in these regards =)
Thanks hendrik,
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think upgrading the account. If I start filming more, it might be worth it. Good thoughts :)
Awesome video. I'm going there in 2 weeks. I hope I can have the same success.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it! Have fun out there. I had a great time. Bring LOTS of water. Beware the nettle. And be sneaky approaching those fish. They spook easily.
ReplyDeleteI was mainly using griffiths and a parachute adams. Good luck!
