Sara and I went out with Capt. Chris Newsome of Bay Fly Fishing to catch striped bass on the Chesapeake Bay. It was an awesome day. Sara's first time fly fishing, and she caught the first 4 stripers.
Capt. Chris is not only a great guy, excellent teacher, and wonderful guide, but also extremely knowledgeable about The Bay ecosystem. He is a great advocate of the conservation of America's largest estuary and this makes him a valuable asset to the area. I couldn't think of a better way to get introduced to the bay's fly fishing potential.
We had an amazing time! Enjoy the video! It is shaky in a few parts, but overall it turned out well. Unfortunately, it seems to have lost some quality while uploading. I'll have to look into that.

Seriously cool, d.nash! You do an amazing job with video footage. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, e! Sara did a lot of the filming too! She got some great shots. It makes a big difference to have multiple people to work the camera. Also, as my 4th try at this, I've noticed you really have to sacrifice some fishing if you want to film. You can't effectively do both simultaneously. For me, it is eat the cake or watch the cake, unfortunately, not both :)
ReplyDeleteWell here's hoping Sara will get hooked on fly fishing too...then you could trade off filming and fishing. Plus, she does a damn fine job with filming! (And fishing too!) ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat made my day! So glad you guys had a chance to get out and put some fish in the boat! Sara looks like she can hold her own...better be careful or you'll never get out from behind the lens :-)
ReplyDeleteSanders - Ha! she can hold her own. She out fished me for sure, especially considering it was her first time fly fishing. It was a great day. Glad it made yours :)
ReplyDeletee - she does do a damn fine job. what can I say? I'm a lucky guy.
Me too man - nice camera work by both of you. when she got her fish on the fly I was on the edge of my seat and when your rod bent over that first time I actually cheered! ( I'm glad no one was here but me. ;) LOL )
ReplyDeleteI better step up my game! Very nice!
Great video d.nash. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Brought back memories from my youth. As a teen, I chased stripers on the fly in the bay. I was not nearly as successful.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great video. It was clear you guys were having a great time and you didn't lose that feeling in the edit. Awesome
ReplyDeleteOwl and Cliff - We were giddy all day long. I'm glad it showed in the video and you guys felt it too.
ReplyDeleteIvan - I'm glad you liked it. You do some great stuff yourself, so that means a lot to me that I could bring you back to your striped days.
What a wonderful day! It temps even your mom! Maybe we need to put that on the 'to do' list!
ReplyDeleteLOL I meant to say " tempts"!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video Nash! Did you get a new rod?
ReplyDeleteThanks, mom! I knew what you meant. I think you would enjoy fly fishing. Another possibility when you visit :)
ReplyDeleteT -man: Thanks! I didn't get a new rod. The guide provided the equipment, but it would be sweet to have one like that. Sage makes some great products.
Great video dude! Chris Newsome lives just a couple miles from me. I hear he is the best in the area for that kind of fishing. You most definitely need a kayak. There are several to choose from that you can stand in for your fly fishing thing. Personally i think you should just ditch the flyrod and get some spinning tackle like a normal person ;)
ReplyDeleteJustin - A kayak would be saaa--weet. what if I get a spinning rod and an inner tube and tie myself to the back of yours? would you be okay with that?
ReplyDeleteIf you pay me I will put you on fish in the flats and paddle your arse around all day ;) You have to provide the red bull and vodka to make it tolerable though.
ReplyDeleteI can pay you in red bull and vodka.... how's that? :) I'll let you know if I get a yak, then maybe I can just tag along and buy you pizza and your drink of choice :)
ReplyDeleteGreat video! Chris is the man!!! If you want to fish some rainbows, brookies and browns come visit me at the farm and bring your camera. You can check it out at www.roseriverfarm.com. We are about 2:30 from tidewater.

Thanks, Douglas. I will be sure to keep you guys in mind!
